What this means is that those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun!
— II Corinthians 5:17

Water baptism signifies that we identify with a change in life. Baptism in the New Testament is the word “baptizo” which means to be immersed. Being baptized in water means we are no longer identifying with our old life but our new life in Christ.

For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to a new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead
— Colossians 2:12

Again, we see our identity is in Christ. Our life is changed since connecting with Him. Our life is a picture of Christ burial and resurrection into a new life. It is the picture of one touch from Jesus that makes us clean! We have been buried with Him and Resurrected with Christ.

Whether you are new in your faith in Christ and have never been baptized or maybe you have been a Christ follower for some time and have thoughts about being re-baptized, be obedient to His word and to your heart. Our prayer is that you follow our Lord and Savior’s example in water baptism.
